Be Careful What You Wish For.

First of all, let me go on record by stating that I was NOT wishing for a blizzard. Evidently, I was out-voted. As I write this (at around 6:35 PM CDT), we are being hit with some snow that I would characterize as “relentless.” As to the “blizzard” classification, let’s go to the authorities at Answers.com:

bliz·zard (blĭz‘ərd) n.

    1. A violent snowstorm with winds blowing at a minimum speed of 35 miles (56 kilometers) per hour and visibility of less than one-quarter mile (400 meters) for three hours.
    2. A very heavy snowstorm with high winds.
  1. A torrent; a superabundance: a blizzard of phone calls.

While I can’t attest to NWS stats on either wind or visibility, I can tell you that by my estimation, we probably hit 50 MPH this morning, around the same time that we couldn’t see the elementary school across the street from our house. From a “Mythbusters” point of view, I’d say this story is CONFIRMED. Want more proof? Here’s some pics I snapped from the heated comfort of the Captain Digital Fortress of Semi-Solitude:

And the snow just keeps on coming. Now it’s supposed to warm up tomorrow, but with this much moisture on the ground, I seriously doubt we’ll see the acumulation gone before Monday at the earliest.

Bottom line, there’s a whole lotta snowin’ goin’ on here in Amarillo. Add our typical embarassment of riches in the wind department, and you have a late March blizzard. Sigh…now if I could just get my hands on the clowns that wished for this mess.
