Hi. Got a minute? I’ve got some questions for you, and I hope you’ll take the time to read this and let me know what you think.
I’ve been a writer for a long time. Wrote a couple of books a few years back, on Flash and animation. Plan to write more in the future (although probably not more tech books – turns out they have a shelf life measured in months…not years). In the meantime, I blog, not just because I’d like to keep my writing chops up, but because I have to. I don’t mean someone’s holding a gun to my head…I mean I feel compelled to write, and it seems pretty stupid to write stuff and never have it read. Blogging allows me to share my thoughts with others, and it costs nothing (other than my time) to do so.
In my day job, as a marketing guy, I design websites and advise clients on how to get the most out of them. As a part of that, we use Google Analytics to determine how well the website works, how many ‘hits’ it gets, which pages work better than others, and so forth. Problem is, no matter how well you can use Google Analytics, it’s still rather like the story about the three blind men at the circus as they try to describe an elephant.
The other disturbing part of monitoring GA is that it’s a lot like playing the market. Your daily hits go up…they go down. Trying to figure out why is a lot like trying to predict how the market will behave. In other words, it’s just this side of impossible.
What I’d like to get, therefore, is some REAL feedback. Since you’re reading this, I must have gotten your attention in some way, shape or form. How did I do it? What did you read here that you enjoyed? What turned you off? What would you like to see more of? What would you suggest I avoid in the future?
In short…talk to me. Tell me what you think.
If you’d prefer, send an email directly to my CD inbox: bkozak@captaindigital.net, rather than using the comments on the site. If you so indicate, I’ll keep your comments private.
Oh, and, thanks for your help.
