Tonight’s debate, I think, could be the turning point. Or not.
McCain is going to be in a “town hall” setting – his prefered ar
ena. Expectations are low. And Palin set him up with a big home run. If he scores big tonight, he could turn this thing around. If not…
…frankly, the only thing I can see that would then turn things in his favor are a complete meltdown by Obama, or a major terrorist attack which would remind the country that while the economy may be in dire straights, if we’re attacked, none of that matters.
No need for me to go into great detail here about McCain, Obama, the media, or anything else. Let’s face it, McCain is not, nor will he ever be confused with Ronald Reagan. Mr. Personality he’s not. So while I hoped and prayed that her handlers would “let Palin be Palin,” I fervently hope that McCain WON’T be McCain tonight. I hope he can be animated, dynamic, persuasive, and come across as a decisive leader. Now is not the time for the feint of heart, or any more “Mr. Nice Guy.”
So we’ll see. Gulp…
