None of the Above.

That’s not just the title of this post, it’s my vote for who won, and who’d I’d LIKE to vote for in November (given that I can’t vote for Sarah Palin for President – or Fred Thompson, for that matter).

After this debate, I don’t want EITHER of these idiots in the White House. Obama has ALWAYS scared the Hell out of me, because almost every answer drags us down the path of socialism. McCain wasn’t much better – he apparently thinks the government should get into the business of guaranteeing the value of homes by having the Feds buy mortgages and allowing homeowners to refinance them based on their current, diminished value.

What in the HELL is going on here?

I love our country, and I still believe that McCain is a better choice than Obama – but not by as much a margin as I’d like. McCain is an honorable man, and he is better on national defense. Obama is clueless about the war, clueless about defense, and clueless about the effect his tax policies will have on the country. But if I had to choose between electing either man or having a nationwide do-over of the primaries (even given that it would put the country through another six months of Hell), I think I’d go for the do-over.

During the debate, I kept wishing that, instead of this bogus “Town Hall” format, that they’d opted for a tag-team match, where McCain could have reached out, taged Palin, and had her dazzle the country with more of her “woman of the people” straight talk. (I’m sure Obama would have availed himself of Biden, too, when the matter of “experience” came up.)

Bottom line, this debate was more of the same. The same tired talking points. The same tired ideas. The same tired sniping at each other. What I wanted to see was some substance. I wanted to see each candidate defend their ideas, and pick apart the other’s. Obviously, I set my sights too high.

I love our country. I want us to be safe and prosperous. With a choice between a socialist and someone who’s all over the map (buying mortgages and have the government pay for the hit they’ve taken with the falling housing market is NOT conservative!) I can’t see that either of these guys deserve to be President.

I’m still voting for McCain/Palin, but to be honest, I’m voting FOR Palin and AGAINST Obama.

Sigh…
