When I was a kid, “In God We Trust” on our money was a non-issue, reciting the Pledge at school was expected, and seeing a crèche on public property was not a big deal…in fact, it was the norm. Today, it seems that everybody in business is paranoid about even the appearance of any “bias” towards Christianity, especially during Christmas. It seems that the PC crowd would have us believe that the “separation of church and state” dictate that the government do everything possible to ignore any kind of expression of Christianity.
Pause with me for a nanosecond.
I don’t want to belabor the obvious, but Christmas is a CHRISTIAN holiday. It is the celebration of the birth of CHRIST. A vast majority of the citizens in this country are CHRISTIANS. There is nothing wrong with public celebrations of Christmas (religious OR secular) any more than there’s anything wrong with public celebrations of Hanukah or Kwanza. As a Christian, does it offend me to see somebody celebrating Ramadan? Nope. Passover? Nope. So why should it offend anybody to even MENTION Christmas?
The truth is that the PC crowd (a.k.a. “humanists,” a.k.a. “liberals,” a.k.a. “progressives”) want nothing to do with Christmas, Christians, or Christianity. My own theory is that they live under the misconception that there should be no moral absolutes, and that any kind of higher authority is an anathema to them. They resent Christianity because it is based on the idea that there are moral rights and wrongs, and a higher authority can have any control over our lives.
Here are some suggestions for those that would ban any and all public mentions of Christianity, especially during Christmas:
Merry Christmas. May you discover the true meaning of the season.
