The problem with Campaign ’08 is that you’ve got people on one side that look at their candidate as the next best thing to the Messiah, and people on the other side that are lukewarm (at best) about theirs. (On the other hand, we can’t WAIT to pull the lever for Palin!) Combine this with the polarization of both sides and you have a recipe for problems – neither side wants to see problems with their own camp, and both are only interested in pointing out the flaws in the other’s candidates.
Fair enough. I get it. No big. But wait…what if the other guy does something really, really bad? Can anyone recognize and admit to a fatal flaw in their own candidate? I don’t know. But we’re about to find out.
According to published reports in today’s Washington Times, Barack Obama, just two weeks after securing the nomination, admits to having private talks with Iraqi leaders, where he attempted to convince them that they should not make an agreement with the Bush administration to keep troops in Iraq, insisting that they should demand Congressional approval of any such deal.
In fairness, Obama’s side denies what the Iraqis say happened. They admit to the first part (Congressional oversight) but deny the more serious charge that he attempted to delay a deal until after January 20). But what reason would the Iraqis have to lie about this?
Think about that for a minute. Like the concept of balance of powers? It’s in the Constitution. You could look it up. In that document, it gives the Executive branch power to negotiate treaties. Not Congress. It gives the President power to wage war. Not Congress. And it grants no special exceptions to a Senator running for President.
That’s bad. That’s an example of a sitting Senator working at cross-purposes with his President. In fact, that’s right on the edge of treason. But in this political climate, I doubt anyone will make it stick. However…it gets worse. A lot worse.
The Iraqi leaders interviewed by the Times for the story go on to say that Obama wanted Iraq to delay ANY agreement until after the inauguration in January.
In one fell swoop, we’ve gone from the gray area of “is it or is it not treason” into “this bozo’s doing this strictly for the benefit of his own candidacy, and no longer able to excuse his actions as being for the benefit of the USA.” That, my friends, is treason.
Here’s how the dictionary defines it:
treason n.
- Violation of allegiance toward one’s country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one’s country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies.
- A betrayal of trust or confidence.
Any way you slice it, when you have a rogue Senator, acting on his own, promoting his self-interests, against the will of the government, you got your basic case of treason. Game. Set. Match.
So where do we go from here? First of all, we ALL need to step back and look at this situation with a cool head, and a keen eye for the law. I believe that those on the far left won’t care – and claim the end justifies the means. Those on the right SHOULD get righteously indignant about this, and insist that the administration bitch-slap Obama. They may not have the political capital to arrest him, but they should damn well call him on it. It is the Administration’s sacred duty to defend our country against enemies, both foreign and domestic. But it’s the undecideds and moderates in the middle I’m worried about.
Think about this:
- Do you want a man who puts his own interests ahead of the country’s to run it?
- Do you want a man who is willing to betray his country as our President?
- Do you want someone who is willing to conduct secret negotiations with a foreign country, in opposition to the office of the President and Executive Branch, to be in charge of the Executive branch?
Now add this to all the other “character” issues associated with Obama. If you’re willing to dismiss his association with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, what about Reverend Wright? What about Father Pfleger? Reverend Farrakhan? Do you really believe ALL those associations can be explained away with the dismissive wave of a hand?
Look, folks. If you lay down with dogs, don’t be surprised when you get up with fleas. Obama pals around with way too many people that express hatred toward our country for it not to rub off on him. He has far too many suspicious connections (Wright, Tony Rezko, Ayers) to be clean. (I was gonna use the common expression “lily white,” but I don’t wanna be accused of racism.) Vote Obama in office, and you’re going to see an ethics meltdown the likes of which will make the Clinton Administration look like Mr. Clean by comparison.
One ethical slip I could excuse. Everybody makes mistakes. But everywhere I turn, I see Obama with yet again another shady association, another self-serving move. And now this. Treason. Ain’t no other way to slice it, people. Obama has committed treason. He’s sold out our country. Please let’s not give him the keys to the castle.
